Sage Creek School Enrolment Reaches Capacity for Grades 1-8 for the 2025-2026 School Year

When the new Kindergarten to Grade 8 French Immersion school opens at 355 Des Hivernants Blvd., the existing school at 315 Sage Creek Blvd. will once again serve Kindergarten to Grade 8 students in the English program who reside in Sage Creek. Specialized learning spaces that were repurposed for regular instruction, such as practical arts labs and the learning commons, will be restored to their intended purpose, providing a quality experience for students; consequently, the building’s overall student capacity will be restored to its design capacity.

Sage Creek School continues to be a vibrant and growing part of the ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓƵ (LRSD), welcoming new families every year. As the neighbourhood expands, so does the student population. As of June 2025, next year’s enrolment in Grades 1 to 8 in the English program has reached capacity, and Kindergarten is nearing that threshold as well. Enrolment currently sits at 660, compared to 785 on June 13, 2025.

To manage these enrolment pressures, the LRSD Board of Trustees made the necessary decision at its March 18, 2025, meeting to redirect new enrolments in Kindergarten to Grade 8 to Shamrock School once Sage Creek School reached its enrolment cap.

If your child is already registered for the 2025-2026 school year at Sage Creek School — including Kindergarten — this redirection plan does not affect you.

A few Kindergarten spaces remain as of June 2025. Once these are filled, any new Kindergarten registrants, along with all new Grade 1 to 8 students registrants will be redirected to Shamrock School. Families who have already been contacted by Sage Creek School administration about redirection will also attend Shamrock School.

Redirected families will be placed on a waitlist and contacted in order of registration if space becomes available at Sage Creek School in the specific grade level. They will then have the option to transfer back.

This redirection plan remains in place for the 2025-2026 school year and will continue as long as enrolment pressures persist. It is part of LRSD’s ongoing efforts to maintain safe, equitable learning environments and manageable class sizes for all students. Please note that all redirected families will receive school bus transportation at no cost.

Long-Term Planning for a Growing Community

Sage Creek is located in the southeast quadrant of the school division, one of the fastest-growing areas of the city. To meet the needs of the community, LRSD’s long-range facilities plan——includes the proposed construction of a new elementary school in Precinct J (the area bounded by Abinojii Mikanah to the south, Plessis Road to the east, Fermor Avenue to the north, and Lagimodière Boulevard to the west – often referred to as Dawson Trail). This project would help alleviate enrolment pressures in Sage Creek and ensure families in the neighbourhood continue to have access to high-quality public education close to home.

LRSD will continue to advocate for provincial investment in new school infrastructure to support this growing community. In the meantime, the redirection plan is one of several short- and medium-term strategies being used to balance enrolment across the division.
