Congrats to LRSD Students and Educators Celebrated at 2025 MCIC Awards!
The 亚洲91视频 (LRSD) is celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students and educators who were honoured at the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) Awards on June 26.
Nelson McIntyre Collegiate students Owen Coomber and Emerson McFadyen were recognized with MCIC’s Outstanding Take Action Project Award for their inspiring work to engage youth in the democratic process. Their project, which included a multi-school survey and a mock federal election, empowered their peers to become informed first-time voters. Their efforts culminated in a meeting with their Member of Parliament, underscoring the real-world impact of student-led civic engagement.
Their recognition is a testament to the power of student initiative and the importance of youth voices in shaping a more inclusive and participatory democracy.
On the educator side, LRSD is proud to celebrate two exceptional leaders who received the Global Citizenship Award for Educators.
Dr. Izzeddin Hawamda, who supports LRSD and two other Manitoba school divisions as the Anti-Racist Education Professional Learning Initiative Coordinator, was honoured for his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion in education. His work, grounded in personal experience and driven by a passion for storytelling and dialogue, has helped create more inclusive and respectful learning environments across the province.
Sean Oliver was also recognized for his leadership in organizing Learning with the Land: A Gathering to Celebrate and Dream, a landmark event held at The Forks that brought together nearly 1,000 participants. Through land-based learning and a focus on Indigenous knowledge, Oliver’s work continues to inspire students to connect with the land and take action toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
Each educator award includes a donation to a charity of the recipient’s choice, further extending the impact of their work.
